繼西非國家的糧食危機後，非洲東部和南部最少有十個國家亦已發生糧荒，受影響之國家數目、範圍和人數猶有過之。

繼西非國家的糧食危機後，非洲東部和南部最少有十個國家亦已發生糧荒，受影響之國家數目、範圍和人數猶有過之。目前，全非洲有36個國家，超過4000萬人正受饑餓威脅。單在肯尼亞，估計已有350至400萬人缺乏足夠的糧食，需要緊急的人道援助；而東北部更有超過25%人出現營養不良。
