About ~the last series~
The Last... series is a series of books by late Scottish author Harry Horse. It currently consists of four books—The Last Polar Bears, The Last Gold Diggers, The Last Cowboys and The Last Castaways. The Last Polar Bears was turned into a 30-minute cartoon for CITV in 2000. They all tell of the travels of Grandpa and his dog, Roo, who is based on Harry's real-life dog of the same name and are told through Grandpa's letters to "his child," presumably either his son or daughter or a grandchild.

3. 4.
Having seen a depressed polar bear in the zoo, Grandfather and his dog, Roo, set off on an expedition to find the last polar bears. After a treacherous journey on HMS Unsinkable, they reach Walrus Bay and the fun really starts. Howling wolves and terible snowstorms delay the start of their trek and when they're on the way their tent is blown away by the fierce winds. They struggle on, hungry and cold to the top of Great Bear Ridge where they see the polar bears at last.
This is a fun interactive book about the animals in the zoo and the sounds they make. It's a great vocabulary builder, since it uses words that small kids may not hear every day. The book is quite enjoyable for kids who like animals, and not at all scary. The story may get kids wound up, however, so it might not be the best choice for a bedtime story. The book has about 200 words.
