If you will be base at New Castle for most of the time, you can consider booking with British Airways/Cathay Pacific which do connection flights by British Airways from London Heathrow to Newcastle as well... And for Virgin Atlantic/Air New Zealand, they also have connection flights by BMI from London Heathrow to Newcastle... These tickets generally allow you a stopover at London at either direction...
As you are flying over to Newcastle is at low season... So flights shouldnt be too expensive at should be generally around HKD5000~6000 maximum include tax... And of course Air New Zealand would be cheapest of all...
To find out more about the fare, you can visit
www.airnewzealand.com as they provide pretty good fare on Air New Zealand flights and its connection as well... While
www.zuji.com will also be able to give you an idea of the cost... But personally, I would suggest you to visit travel agency for a quota of cost as well...
Another option you got is to book a package with Cathay Pacific which include a return Hong Kong-London Heathrow and also a return London Heathrow-Europe... And tis package price is the generally airlines quote price of Hong Kong-London Heathrow plus HKD1000 for the return Europe flight... And this option will also allow you a stopover at London where you can make yourself up to Newcastle if you choose this...
Hope these information actually helps you...
