When carbon is heated with Iron(3)oxide fond the mass of the carbon required to prepare 100g iron.

First of all, let's see the equation of the reaction between iron(III) oxide and carbon:
2Fe2O3(s) + 3C(s) → 3CO2(g) + 4Fe(s)
From the equation, we can see that to prepare 4 moles of iron metal, 3 moles of carbon is needed.
Therefore, for 100 g of iron, it contains 100/55.8 = 1.792 moles
Hence no. of moles of carbon needed = 1.792 × (3/4) = 1.344 moles
So finally, the mass of carbon needed = 1.344 × 12 = 16.13 g
