The main difference between CFA and CFP is their recognitions and the syllabus. Generally speaking, CFA covers the topics of investment and for CFP, it is for financial planning.
So if you are a CFA holder, you can work in the field of finance as a financial analyst, ie. to invest in the financial market, and CFP, as a financial planner in the insurance companies.
Undoubtedly CFA has a higher recognition, as it is accepted as the standard worldwide.
To be qualified as a CFA holder, you should pass 3 papers(1 paper each year), and 4 years related working experience, their website is www.cfainstitute.org
The website of CFP is http://www.cfp.net/
