EPS doesn't equal to cash. It's a kind of service only. It deducts money from your account directly.
The service provider (we can say EPS company) will have a service charge on this service. It's 0.5% of the amount of the transaction. But this charge is paid by the shop
For example, if you buy a thing which is HK$1000, paying by EPS, the shop needs to pay HK$5 to EPS company.
Some shop doesn't want to pay this charge, so they will transfer it to the customer. Actually, you can refuse to pay this charge. But it's still understandable because if the profit margin is low, the shop will have no room to bear this charge
P.S.: I am not sure if the EPS company increase the charge from 0.5% to 1%. If EPS company didn't do that. The shop is earning money from this service !!!! Don't go there
