According to Chinese custom, people used to clean up the house throughtly before year end. It also represent give away all unfortune events in the past and ready for the new beginning in coming year.
This custom is origin from a tale long time ago. Once upon a time, there was a beast which usually capture animals for food in forest. When winter come, many animals will hide inside their cave until spring. Due to shortage in food source, the beast has to go into the village to look for food and sometimes even hunting for human. It has disturbed the peaceful and quiet live in village. People are living under fear and lack of security. One day, they had discovered that the beast was scared about red colour, flash lightening and poping sound. So, they decided to get rid of the beast in several ways. First of all, they hang up red lanten outside their house. As the beast appear, they light up the fire cracker and produce a loud poping sound to horrify it. Finally, they chased after the beast until it had escaped back to forest. As time goes by, people used to wear red color clothing and decorate their house in red for new year. Also annual clean up and lighting fire cracker is a resemble for swept away the back luckand hope for luckiness and happiness in coming new year.
