Query about the rules of word stress

Whenever i come across some new words, i do not know the word stress, thus i probably pronounce the words wrongly
I want to know IF THERE ARE ANY RULES OF WORD STRESS,
so that when i see a new word, i can immediately read it in a correct way, thx!

Rules? yes, in dictionary, but, not necessary to follow thoroughly.

You can find where the stress of a word is in a dictionary.
However, the stress of a word in a sentence is sometimes different from individually a word.
Especially in daily conversation, eg. [ 'sometimes ] could be [ some'times ]

You may say this is bcos the word sometimes is to some extend possibly 2 words - some times.

就係咁, 有兩個可發重音位置的多見於組合字. 化學名稱尤甚!

拼音語言, 好似英文咁, 多數由字根加一些 prefix , suffix 等等組成, 一個英文字越接近字根就越大機會得一個重音位置.
