The is a multiple choice question.

1st statement : At a point of constructive interference of two waves, a crest is always formed.

2nd statement : At a point of constructive interference of two waves, the amplitude of vibration increases.

The answer is D ( 1st statement is false, 2nd statement is true )

Can anyone explain these to me immediately ( detail) ? Thx

1st statement:
crest and trough are always formed, not only crest

2nd statement:
the maximum amplitudes after superposition of two waves is defined as constructive interference, so the amplitude is indeed increased

at a point of constructive interference, it may be from each wave a crest or from each wave a trough ((crest + crest) or (trough + trough)). so 1st statement is false.

becase of superposition, the resultant amplitude is the sum of the 2 waves, so the amplitude is increased.

At a point of constructive interference of two waves, a crest must be formed.
