organic solvents are those carbon-containing solvents. common ones include n-heptane, tetrachloromethane, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, etc.

Br2 dissolves in organic solvent to give a red-orange solution, while I2 dissolves to give a purple solution. This is because they abosrb the complementary colour of red-orange (and violet) respectively in the visible spectrum.

Both fluorine and chlorine dissolves in organic solvent to give a colourless solution.
