Technically, lens with high resolution and less distortion is good. Artistically, many people like high contrast photo and rich color photo. Carl Zeiss lens is good in these area. Some people like natural color photo which reflects the real color as seen on eyes. Leica is good on this (Leica resolution is also very good). Some people want creamy like out-focus area in photo. Leica is also good on this.

Not all lens of a company are of the same quality. In terms of resolution and amount of distortion, fixed focus lens is better than variable focus lens. We cannot say, generally, Leica is better than Canon, especially in digital world. Goodness of lens is a technical matter and artist matter.

Sorry. It is not fixed focus/variable focus lens. It should be fixed focal length/variable focal length lens.
