Gothia Cup (高菲亞盃) is a youth football (soccer) tournament held annually in Gothenburg, Sweden, open for both boys and girls of ages 11 to 19 years (11 – 19歲足球青年軍). With respect to the number of participants, it is the world's largest football tournament: in 2006, a total of 31,230 players and team leaders from 1456 teams and 60 nations participated (60個已參與國家∕地區代表的). Gothia Cup was started in 1975, that year with 275 participating teams.
Spanning one week in July each year, the event becomes a dominating activity in Gothenburg, with (as of 2006) 4320 games played on 91 fields, and 300,000 visitors to the centre on Heden. According to the tourist authorities of Gothenburg, the 2006 Gothia Cup generated 282 million Swedish kronor in tourist income for Gothenburg city and 118 million kronor in tax income for Sweden.

Since its start in 1975 the Gothia Cup has grown to include over 1,500 teams, representing more than 60 countries. The opening ceremony at Ullevi Stadium attracts 43,000 spectators and participants, while 1,600 volunteers guarantee that this remains the tournament of all tournaments!

Who may participate?
All clubs, which are members of their FIFA affiliated national associations, are welcome to participate in the Gothia Cup. The tournament begins with group play. Teams are divided into groups of four or five, where all teams are playing each other once. The first and second team in the group qualify for lay-off A? the other teams in the group for lay-off B?
The tournament is played under all applicable FIFA or Swedish FA rules.

Playing periods
QUALIFYING ROUNDS AND PLAY-OFF B:
Class B19, B18, B16, B15, G19, G17 and G15: 2x25 minutes
Other classes: 2x25 minutes
PLAY-OFF A:
Class B19, B18, B16, B15, G19, G17 and G15: 2x30 minutes
Other classes: 2x30 minutes
Number of players per team
There is no limit to the number of players in each squad. However only five substitutes are allowed in each match. All players must be able to show proof of age and identity.
DISPENSATIONS:
Dispensations will automatically be given to two players per squad (in 7-a-side classes one player) who are maximum one year over aged. Note that you can not use more players by switching them between matches.
In classes B16, G17 and G15 teams from countries that still use the 1st of August limit (mainly USA and England) may also use players 5 months over aged.
Girls may play in boys teams in class B11-16.
Number of teams in tournament
There will be a maximum of 1500 teams (including 200 local teams). The teams paying their entry fees first will be given priority. A club may enter a maximum of two teams in each age class.
