香港殖民地政府研究六六、六七兩次暴動成因後，發現青少年空閒時間缺乏可供參予的活動而被左派招攬，於是決定大量增加文娛康樂活動。暴動後的1969年12月開始舉辦的香港節，就是當中的一個重要節目，籍以加強年青人對香港的向心力。同時政府察覺到有需要改善市民的民生問題，以減少社會不安情緒及市民與政府的對立；間接造成了香港在七十年代在教育、醫療、廉政等各方面的改革。

另一方面，由於六七暴動期間，不少公共巴士路線被逼暫停服務(部份更沒有重投服務)，引致不少九座位載客白牌車應運而生，獲准到市區載客，最終令到殖民地政府認為白牌車可以輔助公共運輸不足，促成1969年將白牌車合法化，成為今日的公共小巴，座位限制由九座位提升至十四座位(1988年增至十六座位)，對香港公共運輸的發展有深遠影響。
