Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is a big festival for Chinese people. Many people go to New Year fair after a reunion dinner together. They burn fire crackers and perform “Lion Dance”. They give out red pockets with lucky money to children and put red decorations to their houses. All these traditions were done due to a rumor story.
A long time ago, there is a legend that the beast “Nian” will come out at Chinese New Year. People are very scared of it and they can’t go out during New Year time. One day, people found out beast “Nian” is afraid of big noise and fire. This brings the tradition of burning of fire crackers and “Lion Dance” which produce noises and fire effects to frighten the beast “Nian”. Red color can also keeps the beast “Nian” away and a sign of good luck for Chinese.
Go to Che Kung Temple is another important tradition during the Chinese New Year. Worshippers pray for good health and good luck for their family. In addition, people will say auspicious saying to everyone. The most popular one is “Kung Hei Fat Choi”, which means “Wish you a good fortune”.
Although Chinese New Year had so many traditions and we do not fully understand, it is still a very interesting festival which brings us a lot of fun.
