The reaction between methane and oxygen gas is according to the following equation
CH4(g)+2O2-->CO2+2H2O
When 10cm³ of methane gas is burnt in 50cm³,the volume of gases is

methane is limiting reactant.
So only 20 cm³ of O2 is used . (by the mole ratio in equation)
As it's measured in 100 oC ,so H2O is also in gas state.there is 20cm³of H2O.
10cm³ CO2 is released
Now the question is asked .....The volume of gases which means we need to find out the gases remained and produced
the required volume is the excess volume of O2 + volume of CO2 produced + 2H2O(g) produced=30 +10 +20 =60

understand?
