You need to tint your color into lighter color first.
If you see the boxes of hair color, you can see 3 sample results usually. The dark hair results are what you will get, and you will not get the result from blonde hair.
To get the box cover result, your hair need to start up w/ a light color. Lightening dark hair is tricky, and takes expert technique to achieve good results. Go to a salon is better.
If your hair did not get the color, you may have hair conditioner or oil on your hair. Clean the hair with shampoo, dry it, but don't put any conditioner or hair product on it prior color.
