Well.. I WAS one of the EX MT in an US bank... um... the difficulity depends on which post... I would suggest one to work in front line because of the better prospect... In general, they want:
1. over 3.3 GPA
2. very good English + presentable (since they hope to groom somebody to lead a sales team eventually)
3. knowing how to organize how you speak (people always missing)
4. good ECA, e.g. preferably with awards and meaningful ECA
5. knowledge of news
6. know how to do case study well... you need some experience
Banking can be seperated into consumer banking and commercial banking in general. Corporate finance (ibk or M&A), research, sales/trading should belong to Finance. They are fundamentally different and skills are NOT TRANSFERABLE. This means don't dream to switch from banking to finance after working for 2+ years. As a financial center, the latter group flourish but hard to get in.
Back to banking, I think the starting salary is good for local graduates. The prospect is in par with those in big 4 after 6 years, if you work in front line. Obviously, working hours is shorter, but you need to rush for quotas. Guys in big 4 also need to face tighter deadline with less labour...
Anyway, think before you choose la... BEST of LUCK
