Conflict - two incompatible items/situations
Contradiction - two logically incompatible items

For example:
John: Mary, are you free on Monday?
Mary: I'm sorry that I have a conflict. I am meeting with Karen on Monday.
John: Oh. When are you meeting with Karen?
Mary: On Tuesday.
John: Isn't that a contradiction of what you have just said?

conflict==>上下級矛盾, 階級觀念, 種族衝突, 武裝衝突,殺傷力較大
Armed conflict is likely to break out between two countries.
武裝衝突可能在兩國發生.....(可能會有上百人死亡)

AND

a bloody conflict
血戰衝突

contradiction==> 因欠缺邏輯而產生矛盾, 或言行矛盾,殺傷力較小.
There seems to be a contradiction between her words and actions
他的言行與動作似乎有點矛盾....(沒有人死亡)

AND
