A 12kg block of gold is cut into 3 pieces A,B and C.The weights of pieces A and B are in the ratio 2:3.If the weight of piece C is 4kg,what are the weights of pieces A and B.

The front cover of a file is a rectangle.The ratio of the length to the width of rectangle is 10:7.If the perimeter of the rectangular front cover is 119cm,find the length and the width of the cover of the file.

The weight of C is 4 kg,
then the weight of A and B is 12-4=8 kg
The weight of A=8x2/(2+3)
=16/5=3.2 kg
The weight of B=8x3/(2+3)
=24/5=4.8 kg

(2)
Let the length of the front cover be x cm, then the width of it is (119-2x)/2 cm
x:[(119-2x)/2]=10:7
7x=5(119-2x)
7x=595-10x
17x=595
x=35
Therefore the length of the front cover is 35 cm, then the width is (119-35x2)/2=49/2=24.5 cm

A: (12-4)*2/(3+2)=3.2kg
B: (12-4)-3.2=4.8kg

Q2:
Let x cm and (7/10)x cm be the length and the width of the rectangle respectively.
2[x+(7/10)x]= 119,
(17/5)x= 119,
x=35
Therefore, the length and the width of the rectangle are 35 cm and 24.5 cm respectively.

A+B+C=12
2B/3+B+4=12
2B/3+B=8
5B/3=8

LENGTH / WIDTH = 10/7
W=7L/10
2L + 2W = 119
2L + 2(7L/10) = 119
