學好英文的方法

分享一下我自己學習書面英文的方法。

先說要讀些甚麼：

英文就是讀來的。要讀些甚麼呢?

要讀的，不(只)是SCMP。

我覺得香港學生花太多太多時間在報紙上了。其實我不建議看太多SCMP。原因：第一，SCMP正文的用字深，句式也深，如果你想在中學階段考得很好，不需看這些的；第二（這個才是主要原因），你在SCMP看到的都只是新聞報導的文章。這類文體用字語氣都非常正式，嚴肅，在你平時作文時是用不著的。你日常會寫的不是報章報導，而考試寫的都只是正常簡單的文章，如果用上SCMP的語氣用字會很奇怪。只看SCMP不行。

那麼要讀的是甚麼? 我把應讀的東西歸納為兩大類：

1. 書

2. 其他 真正的英文材料 (this is what I call "authentic English materials")

找幾本自己很有興趣，而英文寫得不錯的英文書。題材? 種類? 無所謂的。唯一重要的是要自己有興趣的。甚麼書也可以，可以是Harry Potter，Da Vinci Code等的小說，喜歡打波的同學可能會喜歡看 Michael Jordon的自傳，喜歡研究男女關係的女孩子可能會喜歡看 Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus等等的書。甚麼書也沒所謂。我自己喜歡看的就是和生物學，歷史和哲學有關的書。

看書非常緊要。除看書以外，還要看 各種各類，任何英文寫成的東西。學英文的機會周圍都有，看報紙，雜誌未必一定只看上面的文章，更可看看上面的廣告，星座運程，乜夫人信箱，給編輯的信，等等；走到去麥當奴食完野，揭起盤上氈食物的那張紙，上面就是一大篇講麥當奴食物如何營養豐富用料新鮮等等的廢話，這篇東西的英文也寫得不錯的；走到Starbucks喝咖啡，櫃台上的宣傳單張又何嘗不是學英文的好材料呢?；還有，學校派的 "如何預防禽流感" 小冊子上面已有很多字句可學了。

總之學英文一定要由不同類型的材料上學。目的是甚麼? 這樣，你才能學會英文各種不同類型的寫法，用字，風格。例如在廣告，傳單上面可以學到說服別人買野的用字和較friendly的語氣； "如何預防禽流感" 冊子上可學到較正式的語氣和給簡單指示時適用的用字和句式；Young Post，HK Magazine裡的信箱Column可以學到較直接而informal的英文，還有講述個人問題和give advice的語調，用字等等。

這一點是很重要的，香港學生學英文的最大問題是對字詞背後的含意沒有多大認識，以至不懂在甚麼情況下才該用新學的字詞。

總之一定要把握任何學英文的機會，任何英文寫成的東西都是學英文的好材料。（不過當然避免香港人寫的英文，香港人的英文實在太差。)

-communicate with non-chinese, preferably americans or britishs other, probably in community groups
-seek the opportunity to communicate with a foreign eglish teacher
-join a class with British Council and improve your speakind and communication skills
-travel more and use English as you travel

read-
-read english novels
-read stories and have a dictionary next to you just in case you dont know a word
-read newspaper (hardcopy or online)

write-
-summarize stories/newspaper you read
-write letters to penpals.
-keep your own diary (in English)

I came to the US for college 7 years ago. Even I studied in a English secondary school in HK, I still find it difficult to understand what people are saying and people have difficulty understanding what I am trying to say. And I was in Texas too, and Texas people have heavy southerners accent.

Even 7 years later and I have already started working, people in the office still say I have a little bit of british accent. I think the key to this is, you have to talk to american more and then you will be able to pick up their accent and your language skills will improve. Try to think and talk more in English so that one day words will flow out of your mouth without the translating the thoughts in your mind.

There are a lot of slangs in the US depending where you are living and it's hard to teach you specific ones. To be honest with you, you only learn it through everyday interaction. There are a few examples:
in texas: Howdy.... means how are you?
let's get it roll'n... meaning let's get it started.

I have the issue with pronoucing R.... I cant really roll my tongue until today. I think if you say more you will get used to it. The more practice you gets the better. I think now it's ok for me to say words with the R sound in it like Rolling, Repeat, etc, but I know it deep inside me that if I am just saying R it's a bit weird. But it's also a mothertongue thing too. So don't worry about it too much.

就如「熟讀唐詩三百首,不會吟詩也會偷」

首先日日買份南華早報,只睇頭版(比較淺),晚上睇英文新聞報導,得閑睇吓西片,頭三個月睇字幕,之後唔要字幕!其實鬼佬唔太重視學文法,從英國O.level&A.level便知,英文最重要係作文,其次係說話&英文解釋,最次要係閱讀理解,因為唔太實用!最好學英文嘅方法係聽英文歌,香港年青人沒有動力聽英文歌,英文歌歌詞多數都充滿感情色彩,而且聽歌心境比較開朗&輕鬆!香港所謂的愉快學習是騙人的!想學好英文其實途徑多多,報紙,雜誌,電視.......學文法最簡單就係死做習作就得,但說話&作文就要打一點天才波&後天努力!但本人個人認為要有很大決心,自問你的鬥志如何？另外查字典同樣十分重要,網上字典的解釋大都不夠深入,而且多義詞嘅用法很模糊,例句太少!仲之學好英文的方法實在太多,不能盡錄!

聽英文歌,睇電影&同鬼佬講英文最最最有效!

其實，老生常談的方法最有用，就是Extensive reading, 即閱讀不同的英文材料，報紙、故事書、外國雜誌、傳單、政府小册子、英文歌詞....

如果覺得好深睇唔明，可以先由簡單的著手，例如young post，仲有政府出的傳單、公告好多時都有中英對照，咁就更加易明。

個人最不鼓勵一面死讀文法書籍，因為很難apply到日常生活中。

除了多閱讀外，最重要，是有一本好的字典，一本較advanced的放在家裡(提議買Collins Cobuild)，用來作詳細理解，另外可要一本pocket size的帶出街，只查生字。

查字典很重要，不能只靠網上字典，那只知道生字的字義，對用法等都無法理解。

仲有，而家pearl同world的新聞都有英文字幕，多看多聽，都很有用！
