SD card have different speed, this will affect the speed which the data reads into and from the SD card, price is different too.
For camera, most important is to read the instruction of camera and see which brand and capacity of SD card is supported.
For some older version of DC, the max. capacity can be as low as 1Gb, so check this before.
There is one new type of SD card called SDHC , this is usually comes in at least 4Gb and up, this is designed for new and high-end DSLR or DC (I doubt any DC) to use. The importatn thing is , not all camera supports SDHC and your normal card reader do not support this as well,
Toshiba hi-speed, (white in colour) is quite good, and cheap and made in japan. 1 Gb around $110, problem is max. 1Gb
There are also lexar, sandisk, and many other brand. I find many of them made in China.
Also, you should select the capacity relative to your DC's image quality.
for 5megapixels , 512Mb or 1Gb card maybe good enough
for 10megapixels, 1Gb or 2Gb maybe better
People will try to buy 2 x 2Gb instead of 1 x 4Gb because if one of the card fail, you don't lost all the memory capacity. Provided changing the SD card is not a great problem during shooting.
