這個Pass 必須於日本以外地方購買(e.g. 香港)之外, 其餘四種火車証均可在日本國內 JR 火車站中的旅遊中心之內買到, 但購買時仍必須持有外國 passport, 並有短期滯留簽證!

First of all, Hokkaido Pass can ONLY use in Hokkaido. Only the Japan Pass is valid to go anywhere in Japan (ie. Tokyo-Hokkaido). It is not worth to buy a Japan Pass just for the sake of traveling from Tokyo to Hokkaido, coz you will have to pay extra dollar to get on to the over-night train (7:30pm Ueno>6:30am Hakodate). The extra cost is count by one way, and pretty close to the price of an air ticket. The cheapest way to get ticket is from ADO - Air Do (use google to translate the page if dont know Japanese), a local Hokkaido Airlines ~200USD around trip. Good thing is you can book arrival at a different city (eg Hakodate) and return at (eg Abashiri). That way, you can go from far South to far East.
