No matter for men or for women, there are a lot of people who like to dance nowadays. Today everyone will think that it's normal for a guy to learn to dance, and even if it's ballet dancing. However, boys weren't allowed to learn to dance in the old days. Parents will object their son strongly for doing so, and people would have the misconception that boys learning to dance are homosexuals. Similarly, girls were only allowed to learn certain things like music, while boys were only allowed to learn boxing, thus this became a pattern in the sociality in terms of what boys can girls could learn. This is in fact a very closed-minded traditional idea. It is the same in China or in Britain, but the only difference is in Britain, people are able to utilize boxing or dancing as a profession while it was absolutely impossible in China. Since in the eyes of Chinese both boxing and dancing were considered as low-class interests and they will not guarantee a future for their children. The Chinese also believe that only prostitutes will learn how to dance and those who like to fight will learn boxing and cause troubles. [a]'s father has great hopes on him learning boxing, but in the movie, he loves to dance ballet in fact. Even he was being humiliated and stopped by his family, he did not give up dancing!
