[Acceleration due to gravity 地心加速度] is the acceleration experienced by any object that falls freely under gravity on earth.
The acceleration due to gravity, conventionally denoted by g, varies at different places on earth. It has a max. value at the poles and min at the equator because the distances of the poles and equator from the earth centre are different (the poles has a shorter distance than the equator as the earth is somewhat like a pear shape).
Also, g decreases with altitude. Hence, the value of g at mountain tops is smaller than that at sea level.
In school physics, g normally takes the value of 9.81 m/s2 (or to a more rough estimate of 10 m/s2).
