"修身齊家治國平天下" 英文怎樣翻譯?

「修身、齊家、治國、平天下」
「修身」是修身養性, 培養好一己的習性和品格, 樓上網友用‘cultivation’是正確的, 但另些網友譯作‘equip’則有疑問。‘Equip oneself’是裝備好自己, 例如為了謀生而投考專業資格、為了進修翻譯而勤練語文能力等, 但這卻與本身的品德修為沒有必然關係, 一個人可以是‘equipped with skills and knowledge’, 品格卻可能差。‘Cultivate oneself’是培養性情、陶冶品德, 「修身」也。
「齊家」是把家庭管理妥善。‘Start a family’是建立家庭、成家立室, 是否持家有道則是另一回事；‘build a family’好一點, 但同樣不足。
「治國」是把國家治理得安定融和。‘Govern a country’ 和 ‘ruling a country’只表示治國, 並無說治理得好不好, 因此要在其後加上形容詞, 例如‘rule a country well’ 或 ‘manage a country well’。
「平天下」比較難理解, 我認為是把天下理順, 使天下太平的意思。‘Conquer’是戰勝、攻克、征服； 希特拉企圖征服歐洲以至世界, 可以說成 Hitler tried to ‘conquer’ Europe and the world, 征服了別國而採強權統治必不得民心, 如果他真的征服了天下, 後果會是甚麼樣！「修身、齊家、治國、平天下」四件事情都有正面意思, 相對下‘conquer’卻含眨意, 不適合這裡採用。如以‘bring peace’取代, 有用德政治世而令世人心悅誠服的意思, 比較合適, 心悅誠服自然天下太平。
