Château Branaire-Ducru 2002
Robert Parker: 90/100
Description
Originally, this Branaire vineyard and that of Beychevelle were all one but separated during the 17th century. Since 1988, the Chateau has been in the hands of a french family who have made Patrick Maroteaux the director. Classe 4ème cru like the Beychevelle estate in 1855, the Branaire wines are made in a modern winery, using a system of draining the wine that is assited by gravity, which helps to avoid tiering out the wine by handeling it to much. The vines the wine is made from are roughly 30yrs old with a mixture of Cabernets, Merlots and Petit verdot, the wines are aged in oak barrels, then a fining agent is added then put into bottles at the Chateau. For years Chateau Branaire has been a welcome sight in Bordeaux.
