car insurance question.?

I'm working on transferring my current car insurance to Geico and am filling out the electronic form to get a quote. My car is brand new, and I have had it for like eight months. I don't know much car insurance; in the electronic form, what coverage do I pick for full insurance instead of liability? Thanks.

I'm also wondering if I can fax over my current policy to Geico and have them to match what I have and give me a quote?

That's the problem with trying to do it on line instead of with an agent. All you can do is read your current policy to see what your coverage is now. If it's new, you will need full coverage.

I'd suggest you go and find an independent agent and let him find you the best policy to meet your needs. That way you will have someone local to turn to if you need to.

STOP. Just call GEICO -- they have people available 24/7 and can answer any questions much easier than on-line systems. You are under no obligation to purchase anything when you call, they are all very nice and the whole process takes just minutes.

You can put in all your current info on the website or just call them. They are open around the clock and will explain any questions you have.

From experience, I would suggest going to a local insurance agent in your home town or nearby. It is so much easier that way, especially if the day ever comes when you need to file an insurance claim. I find that the on-line places reel you in with a low on-line quote and then when you actually talk to them on the phone (they will call you), suddenly, the price goes up for one reason or another. At least get a quote from both an on-line company and a local agent and compare the prices before purchasing.
In addition, you are not required by law to get full coverage (comp. and collision) if you bought your car out right or if your finance company didn't require it. Liability insurace is what is neccessary to have by law in almost every state. But I suggest that you purchase comp. and collision with a new car. Liability protects the other person while comp. and collision protects you.
Also, in order to keep your insurance payments down a bit you could choose a higher deductible. This means that if your car is damaged and needs repair, you pay the deductible amount and then the insurance company pays the rest. They usually offer three choices.
Talk to your friends and family and see if they can recommend a local insurance company or a specific insurance agent. Visit the agency and discuss your options before you purchase anything from them. Look for an agent who is friendly and seems knowlegable and that you like.
Good luck to you!

I don't know what State you are in but in Texas we call it Liability and collision coverage that covers you if you run into someone else, and comprehensive for Hail damage ect. I would look at my insurance policy and try to get the same coverage for less money. I'm insured by another company that beats G**** more ways than one. G**** will not insure you if your credit history isn't to their standards and probably go up on their rates if your FICO score goes down.
