Sheung Cheung Wai was built about 200 years ago by a lineage of the Tang clan which branched out from Hang Tau Tsuen in Ping Shan. It is the only walled village along the Ping Shan Heritage Trail. The layout of the village was symmetrical with rows of houses being enclosed by a green-brick wall and the gate house and shrine lying on the central axis.
