Well, sometimes the shipping cost they charge doesnt truely reflect what is needed to send the item. As long as the overall price for the item is good, nobody really cares how much you charge for postage (of course have to be reasonable!).

There are lots of options available when sending items overseas, so it depends on what service you need and what you are sending. I'd recommend Hong Kong Post Speedpost (EMS), their service is good and the price is cheaper than other courier such as UPS and DHL. Using EMS in your case, 1kg Speedpost to USA will be 169HKD, or ~22USD, and UK will be 212HKD, or ~28USD.
