施坦威 Steinway&Sons 鋼琴
「施坦威」鋼琴歷史悠久。公司於1853年在紐約成立。其創始人亨利施坦威（Henry Steinway）原是一位德國木匠，在自家的廚房裡做出了第一架鋼琴。後來，他移民美國，創建了施坦威公司並提出一條宗旨：以最大的可能和努力為世界造出最好的鋼琴。時至今日，施坦威公司2000多名員工的工資單上仍可看到這句話。為方便歐洲國家顧客買琴，1880年在德國漢堡建立了子公司。現在除了美洲市場外，其它地方的「施坦威」都是由漢堡製造的。
「施坦威」工藝很高超，一位鋼琴製造師要當三年半的學徒才可以正式工作。在這三年半中有1/4的時間在鋼琴製造學校學習，3/4的時間在琴廠做手工。至今「施坦威」80％的加工還是純手工製作。

Coincidentally, I am a collector of historical Steinway memorabilias (which I recently exhibited in a recent concert). There are a few more good books on Steinway, but they are all out-of-print now.
Whatever it is, I think it's best to avoid using words like "為世界造出最好的鋼琴", etc., unless you are simply one of the millions of Hong Kong people who only look at brands and labels (in New York we call these people label-whores). Steinway is good, Steinway is great, but it's best to understand them first before using superlatives like that. Piano is a very subjective thing.
