I just wanna know why those naive youngsters think wearing an LV and Gucci shows that they are rich?

In fact , one common Gucci and LV bags you see on street , cant even buy one hand of HONG KONG shares like 0005 HSBC HOLDINGS = I hand = $140 X 400 shares = $56000 HKD

that's how culture is in HK... when one of friends own a brand name bag, you are obligated to follow that, if not you will be left out or something. They are rather short sighted and probably they don't know the importance of saving up until they really need the money in case of an emergency.

Also don't forget the issue with materialism amongst younger has always been a problem since a long time ago. I dont think this situation is going to be changed soon.

first of all, i am not a youngster, and of coz i am not naive, and i am not a fan of name branded product.
but from what i read in your question........ no offense, i can tell you a nerd! buying a name branded product is not showing people you are rich or anything. it's a respect. i am a young exceuctive. everyone surrounding me wearing a name brand product, if you are not. you don't respect your social group. then you don't even belong to this social group. without people network, how do you expect to climb the corporate ladder? as simple as that. it's not show off. it's just nature of the business.
yes, true. u can use the money to buy stock and make profit. but in Business 101. "Opportunity Cost" . your stock profit is in exchange of a Opportunity. Your lost could be a lot greater than the stock profit from HSBC. how much profit do you expect from 400 shares of HSBC in 5 years? 10%? 20%? no, thanks for that tiny little money. i'd rather to dress up and kiss my boss' behind to gain more exposure to the upper management.
*My advice to you, you need to take a few more Business classes. Thanks.
*buying 1 house = rich? don't be naive la. you have to set your goal higher.
