Especially in the US and UK.
In these countries, you can't organise carol concerts in some schools for fear of offending someone or another. You can't mention Christmas without mentioning Hannukah and Kwanza too. And finally, the Christmas Holiday is renamed "Winter Vacation" for reasons of "inclusiveness". Bah!
By the way, I'm Buddhist and I lived in Hong Kong for 5 years. In Hong Kong, I celebrated Christmas, my school celebrated Christmas. We sang carols, we decked our halls with broughs of holly... we even had a creche. And no, we weren't Christian, but by god, WE HAD FUN!
So why are some people, especially Jews and Muslims, so sensitive about Christmas? Why not just go along with the flow and have fun?
Hey, I'm Buddhist, and I love Christmas. I always wish everyone a "Merry Christmas" and I'll always call it the "Christmas Holiday" and never "Winter Vacation".

I know what you mean. I definitely do not believe in any of the religious side of Christmas, nor Christianity or anything like that. However I still celebrate Christmas, because it a bit of fun at the end of a year. And I don't call it "Gift Exchanging Time Period Non-Dependant on Religion". I call it Christmas. I'm not Christian and I don't care, why do the Jew/Muslims etc. They're just trying to exploit all of this political-correctness stuff of these days.

It's all about being "politically correct." Not wanting to step on any toes or hurt anyone's feelings by having them feel left out. We've all become a bunch of wussies if you ask me. Everybody has their panties in a wad about stupid stuff like this and it takes the focus off of real issues like children starving & people dying of preventable disease.

Isn't it sad... in places like where I live we can call the holiday Hannuka or Kwanza but no one gets offended. If someone were to walk up to me and mention these holidays there would be no problem in my eyes. But only Christmas and the name of Jesus offends people... it's really twisted. Some people can't even put up a christmas tree without offending someone but if someone has a menora up and someone gets offended and asks to them to take it down it's not right.

Because people have forgotten who to put first in their lives. With out CHRIST, there would be no CHRISTmas.

I think you basically answered your own question, but to add to it I think people are so worried about offending those of other religions they have taken away any sense of tradition and culture we once had. (I am in the US)

The primary reason that schools are "iffy" on the whole situation with Christmas is the parents of the children who attend the schools. A minority of them (in most cases) have their poor little feelings hurt because they are afraid that their child will feel left out during Christmas celebrations. However, I'm betting that if you hand a kid from any religion a free present, they'll gladly accept it.

It's more of the fear of lawsuits by gready lawyers who prey on the weak, misunderstood, sick, and religiously insane to drive their need for riches .
America and UK are lawsuit happy and lawyers feed like the parasites they are on this holliday celebration and use it as an excuse to express their sick desire to change things to suit themselves.

I'm not Christian but I see nothing wrong with school concerts performing Christmas carols or Hanukkah songs.

It's the era we live in. If we're not "sensitive" to everything, someone will get their feelings hurt.

It'd only be 'fun' if the Christians all celebrated the Muslim and Jewish holidays too. You can't exclude the others' holidays from public celebration.

Because, unlike in a culture like Japan, Christianity is pushed on everyone through things like school celebrations. This has led to a severe backlash. If Christians didn't push so hard in all areas of life, the innocent school concerts wouldn't be a big deal. The fact that you can't get away from it, but should be able to in a government run entity, is the main reason.
