less than

so the number on the left of < is smaller than the number on the left of it

> is called greater than

LESS THAN

Number before the < is less, and after is more.

This probably sounds stupid, but my math teacher told us an easy way to remember is that the symbol < is like a crocodiles mouth, and it always eats stuff that is bigger.

would not recommend something in holding with say, yet operating example <a million,2> is a vector (a line composed of a importance (length) and a direction). except that that is the better than/less than signs and indicators. i do not recognize of the different use for them in maths, as i have by no skill seen something similar on your social gathering.

All other answer are correct. For a bit of fun two more symbols, thus ^ means up and v means down.

Less than, but NOT equal to.

Less than.

Well it means the thing of the left is smaller than the thing on the right.

7 < 10 which means 7 is smaller or less than 10.

Conversly, > means greater than.

It means 'less than'. i used to get mixed up with this. Remember that the 'point' always points to the smaller number.

E.g:

1 < 2 (one is less than 2)
2 > 1 (two is greater than 1)
x < y (x is less than y)
y > x (y is greater than x)

< is less than, and > is more than
2007-01-14 8:27 pm
less than

for example 8<10

the "crocidile" mouth always points to the bigger number

That means "less than". The number on the left side of that symbol is less than the number on the right of the symbol.

The "<" symbol means that whatever is on the left side of it is less than whatever is on the right side of it. For example:

0 < 1 is true because zero is less than one.

You would read it as "Zero is less than one"
