A marketing analyst claimed that at least 60% of the people making pruchases over $500 use a credit card. An independent researcher challenged this claim with results, which indicated that, of 860 surveyed, 425 used a credit card. Was this challenge justified at the 0.05 level of sigificance?

H0: θ0>=0.6
H1: θ0<0.6
α=0.05
Reject the null hypothesis of z<=-1.645
x=425, n=860
Z
=x-nθ0/√(nθ0(1-θ0))
=(425-860*0.6)/√(860*0.6*0.4)
=-91/14.366
=-6.3344
since
-6.3344<=-1.645
we reject the null hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance and conclude that there are less than 60% of the people making purchases over $500 usa a credit card
