1) Usually big travel agency would have pretty cheap tickets as they usually book a large number of seats per flight... So they can sell you tickets as part of a group tour booking... So usually, it is cheaper and more of the case during peak season... This is also because travel agency usually hold those tickets until the last minute when they will release it back to the airlines...
2) During peak season, I would suggest you to book it early in advance... Although there is a chance that travel agency will release tickets back to airlines last minute whereby airlines will then provide cheap tickets... But during peak season, this is not so likely, so I would advice you to book it as early as possible
3) If you are just booking a package or tickets only... Not booking as a group tour, then it should not need your passport... You will just need to present your passport and other travel documents along with your ticket at the airport... However, if you are booking a group tour, then they will need to check your passport to see if it would expire soon or require a visa... But usually, its OK if you are booking a package or ticket only...
4) There is no such things as children travel free... Even children under 2 are required to pay a fare of 10% of the full ticket fare... Children between 2~11 will have to pay a fare of 50% of the ticket fare... So all childrens are required a ticket and even children under 2 are required to book in advance as airlines will then block a seat with baby bassinet for the kid and his parents...
