Traveling 980 miles with dog and cats?

I'm traveling 980 miles with my golden retreiver who is 10 months old and 2 cats. It's too late to go to the vet and get prescription sedatives for them are there any other ideas to help them through the ride or anything I can safely give them?

Chamomile tea is safe, and works well for all of them. Mix it in a *little* canned meat, (canned cat food works) and give before the trip. dump it out of the bag, and give a Tablespoon for the dog, and a teaspoon to the cats..Even convenient stores carry it in the section with teas.
It relaxes them, and they will likely want to sleep.. I just traveled 1500 miles with 5 of my dogs, and they made the trip just fine. You will likely need to stop about a half hour, to an hour into the ride for the dog, and then every 2 hours until dark, when they seem to sleep through the night.

the only way to travel is to kennel them,if you dont...you risk losing them.

Make sure you put them in cages with blankets, enough food and water, their toys and make sure the cages are close.
Let them out for a walk when you stop for rest.

I wouldn't stop every hour. Every three hours though, yes. How are they in a car? Where will they ride? I would crate train the Golden and crate him for the trip. It's safer for the driver, the dog in case of car accident, and easy to clean if he should develop motion sickness. Plus it's nice to have one in the hotel room for familiarity (just leave the door open this time)

I would practice putting a harness and leash on your cats. They'll need fresh air and exercise too.

I've never traveled that far but used to travel 350 miles on a regular basis with 4 dogs and 2 cats!

Good luck...that's a loooong way.

Please keep the cats in kennels. They feel protected and snug and like nobody can see them.

The dog will be easier to care for if he is obedient. Make sure he's on a leash when you stop.

Make sure they all are wearing contact information on their tags in case one gets loose and won't come back.

All can go for minimum 4 hours without water, but your dog may HAVE to "go" after only 30 minutes on the road because of excitement, then he should be fine for several hours.

Have fun on your trip.

Travel ease by Ark Naturals.com. Go to the website for a store near you. It really works, without making them too sedated.

There is a tourist guide book you should look for. It's called something like "The Dog Lover's Guide to the USA". It's great, it tells you all the pet friendly places to stop.
Could come in handy.

Well if you nedd to travel that far make a pit stop every hour and walk them even the cats! It makes them stay healthy and get through the trip safely.
