Chinese New Year Superstitions
Chinese New Year is a great festival. Many people will feel excited because everybody will have a long holiday in this festival. On the other hand, people will do something superstitions in this festival.
First, people will wear new clothes on New Year’s Day. They think that wearing new clothes on that day is lucky and they will wear clothes in different colours. They think that red means lucky, blue mean energy and gold means money.
Besides, new clothes, people will not clean their houses on New Year’s Day because they think their good fortune will be swept away. After that, married people will give Red Envelopes to children to wish them a healthy life.
Besides, people will eat some special festive food which is called Chinese New Year Cake. The name of the cake in Cantonese sounds like the Chinese word for “getting taller and better each year”. So people eat them, hoping to bring themselves luck.
Finally, people will paste some lucky scrolls on the wall. Lucky scroll is a piece of red paper with some lucky sayings on it. These scrolls create a better festive mood and are considered to bring fortune.
