I dunno, but it's usually a British thing, not a Chinese thing. A while ago, they were setting off fireworks for Guy Fawkes and now it's for New Year (1 January, not Chinese).

The new year day on the lunar calender is Feb 18th this time.

last week - New Year
This week 12th night
Around here, we have so many cultures that there is some form of religious festival most weeks.
Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Chinese New Year etc.
The local council put the lights up for Diwali and keep them up till today.
Any week - who needs an excuse for a party.
