1) 如果你想表達的意思是工作/事業/功課, work 是不必加 s 的. (因是不可數名詞 [U])

e.g. looking for a job, but looking for work

若你的意思是工程, 則可以加 s. 但是, 日常生活中常見到的工程指示牌, 多是沒有 s 的. 即使用 google 搜尋器找 renovation works work in progress, 出來的結果也是沒有 s 的很多, 包括美國的網站:

因此, 雖然字典表示要加 s, 但也不一定要嚴格跟隨的.

2) 至於停車的地方, 似乎較適宜寫成為: the carpark, the parking area, 或者 the parking lot (Am, 露天大的停車處).

area 雖可作 [C] 或 [U], 但當你想指要找一個們車場時, 通常都是指一個大的地方, 內裡有很多泊車位置的, 而不是數個們車場, 所以, 沒有必要刻意用 parking areaS.
