Your question is a good one. If he was merely a human, religious leader, than very little makes him better than any other. It is true, he died a horrible, shameful death with the idea that it would save other people. If he was just a religious leader, that would certainly make him special: David Koresh, Dan Barker, or Mohammad haven't done that.

However, he's not - he was, and is, the only begotten son of God, God in human flesh. That completely takes him out of the realm of mere religious leaders. Was he a religious leader? Yes, certainly - but so much more - infinitely more, in fact.

As for being a copy of Horus - the person who said that reads too much Till and Harpur and ignores actual scholars. A cursory reading of the respective stories of Jesus and Horus shows that for the laughably simplistic idea it is.

That he claimed to be God incarnate, and yet he was murdered.

That he claimed to be able to forgive our sins.

That he called God "Abba" (="Daddy").

That he preached total self-sacrifice.

Man, the list goes on and on. There's no comparison.

He is the only son of God
2007-01-05 1:21 am
He was the son of God. Period. The End. That is pretty unique if ya ask me.
2007-01-05 1:21 am
He died for the sins of all men and was resurrected...and sits at the right hand of God the father....He is alive today....all other religious leaders are DEAD..
2007-01-05 1:21 am

He's the only leader that died in the place of all humanity! He is also the King of the Kingdom of God! Pretty unique, huh! (He's also my friend!)
2007-01-05 1:22 am
He is the way, the truth, and the life.

Jesus was God's literal son, everybody else is spiritually children of God, not Literal like Jesus

Methinks one reason is because conquered people with words instead of swords and bloodshed. He never claimed anything except being the Son of God. And as far as religious people in the world, J.C. had a huge following yet he did not once abuse or corrupt them, nor bleed their pockets.

=)

could it be that...ummm ...he was...like...ummmm.... GOD... The One True God
2007-01-05 1:22 am
I don't know that I would classify him as a religious leader as that sounds like a human role. He was called by some the Son of God. Surely this is higher level than say, the Pope or Billy Graham?
2007-01-05 1:20 am
everything> He rose from the dead, all the other teachers are dead.
"I know men; and I tell you that Jesus Christ is not a man. Superficial minds see a resemblance between Christ and the founders of empires, and the gods of other religions. That resemblance does not exist. There is between Christianity and whatever other religions the distance of infinity..." So says Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821), emperor of France.
2007-01-05 1:21 am
He's a fictional character?
2007-01-05 1:22 am
He had a big...oh wait, nevermind.
2007-01-05 1:21 am
Absolutely nothing. His story was around for centuries among other religions. He is a recapitulation of Horus.
2007-01-05 1:44 am
He is the image of the invisible God, the way the truth, and the life.He is the only begotten son of God,the lamb of God. He is our Savior, He is the Holy One. The Prince of Peace and the King of Kings. He is our wonderful counsellor, and He is our advocate. He is the true vine and the bread of life. He is the light of the world as well as the resurrection and life.He is the Judge the Master, the High Priest. He is the Lord of Lords, the Almighty,He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the Shepherd and Bishop of souls, and He is the wonderful counsellor. He is the head of the Church and the Chief Cornerstone,He is the rock.He is the living water, the Rose of Sharon, and the True Vine.He is our Redeemer, the Servant, and our Master.
He is the almighty.
He is the Everlasting Father.
He is the Alpha and the Omega.
HE IS THE MESSIAH.
I believe that all this and more is what makes Jesus the Christ unique. Actually more..much more than just plain unique.
2007-01-05 1:24 am
Comparing Jesus to other religions leaders (ex: Budda), Jesus is the only God who is still living. He died and rose again to new life. No other non-Christain religions have that.
2007-01-05 1:22 am
Crusaders and the Roman Catholic Church managed to slay more people than anyone else, and most of the powerful nations are Christian based. Unfortunately the bullies always get things their own way.

if asking according to the past

he was among at least 450 Messiahs that all failed

he was a doer not a leader

He never existed. He was fabricated by taking pieces from so many other religions. He was conceived because God raped a woman. The list could continue.

hes a monarch and i hate him
2007-01-05 3:21 am
He is the only one who rose from the dead. He proved that he has the power over life and death and he offers eternal life to all who believe in him. "I am the resurrection and the life."
2007-01-05 1:58 am
He had at his disposal, thousands of angels, each higher than himself while he was on earth as a man,and in a humble way didn't put on a showy display of power.Remember these angels were very powerful as compared to man.NOTE --Good point Nikki,,

all religious icons are unique, even if they are just plagiarized versions of another
2007-01-05 1:38 am
What made him unique was that he awakend from his tomb and un like other prophets he is still ALIVE, and of course he was the son of God.
2007-01-05 1:31 am
He is the only one to return from the dead.
2007-01-05 1:29 am
Who are the originators of religions? Jesus, Mohamed, Buddha. Sorry can't think of any others off hand with a single originator.

I guess it would be the whole son of god thing. And I'm sure his teachings were unique. As CS Lewis said, he was either the son of god or he was a charlatan who got exactly what he deserved.

He didn't do it for money. *cough*

Jesus is followed closely by his disciples unlike others.

Jesus being the head of the congregation has a religion that does not participate in wars, unlike other killing even the innocent or others who belong to the same religion that they do. They follow Jesus' instruction Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.—Matt. 26:52.

Jesus' followers hold true what Jesus said : “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” (John 13:34, 35)

Jesus' followers obey him when he said: “It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.” (Matthew 4:10)

Jesus' followers accept him as God’s means of salvation. The Bible says: “There is no salvation in anyone else, for there is not another name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must get saved.” (Acts 4:12) “He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; he that disobeys the Son will not see life.”—John 3:36.

Jesus preached when he was a man so does his followers. Jesus foretold: “This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14) Instead of encouraging people to look to human rulers to solve their problems, true followers of Jesus Christ proclaim God’s heavenly Kingdom as the only hope for mankind. (Psalm 146:3)

He is God's son who came down to earth and lived a sinless life. He died on the cross at calvary as a subsitute for all our sins. this pleased God and now we have lives. Jesus loves us all even if we dont love Him. But He wants us all to love He wants to be in our lives. Christ is our salvation. If you accept Him into your life you will go to Heaven.

This is the opinion of Maimondes the greatest Jewish scholar

Even Jesus the Nazarene who imagined that he would be Messiah and was killed by the court, was already prophesied by Daniel. So that it was said, “And the members of the outlaws of your nation would be carried to make a (prophetic) vision stand. And they stumbled” (Daniel 11.14). Because, is there a greater stumbling-block than this one? So that all of the prophets spoke that the Messiah redeems Israel, and saves them, and gathers their banished ones, and strengthens their commandments. And this one caused (nations) to destroy Israel by sword, and to scatter their remnant, and to humiliate them, and to exchange the Torah, and to make the majority of the world err to serve a divinity besides God.(Hilkhot Melakhim 11:10–12.)

After that there arose a new sect which combined the two methods, namely, conquest and controversy, into one, because it believed that this procedure would be more effective in wiping out every trace of the Jewish nation and religion. It, therefore, resolved to lay claim to prophecy and to found a new faith, contrary to our Divine religion, and to contend that it was equally God-given. Thereby it hoped to raise doubts and to create confusion, since one is opposed to the other and both supposedly emanate from a Divine source, which would lead to the destruction of both religions. For such is the remarkable plan contrived by a man who is envious and querulous. He will strive to kill his enemy and to save his own life, but when he finds it impossible to attain his objective, he will devise a scheme whereby they both will be slain.

The first one to have adopted this plan was Jesus the Nazarene, may his bones be ground to dust. He was a Jew because his mother was a Jewess although his father was a Gentile. For in accordance with the principles of our law, a child born of a Jewess and a Gentile, or of a Jewess and a slave, is legitimate. (Yebamot 45a). Jesus is only figuratively termed an illegitimate child. He impelled people to believe that he was a prophet sent by God to clarify perplexities in the Torah, and that he was the Messiah that was predicted by each and every seer. He interpreted the Torah and its precepts in such a fashion as to lead to their total annulment, to the abolition of all its commandments and to the violation of its prohibitions. The sages, of blessed memory, having become aware of his plans before his reputation spread among our people, meted out fitting punishment to him.

Daniel had already alluded to him when he presaged the downfall of a wicked one and a heretic among the Jews who would endeavor to destroy the Law, claim prophecy for himself, make pretenses to miracles, and allege that he is the Messiah, as it is written, "Also the children of the impudent among thy people shall make bold to claim prophecy, but they shall fall." (Daniel 11:14). [21]

In the context of refuting the claims of a contemporary in Yemen purporting to be the Messiah, Maimonides mentions Jesus again:

You know that the Christians falsely ascribe marvelous powers to Jesus the Nazarene, may his bones be ground to dust, such as the resurrection of the dead and other miracles. Even if we would grant them for the sake of argument, we should not be convinced by their reasoning that Jesus is the Messiah. For we can bring a thousand proofs or so from the Scripture that it is not so even from their point of view. Indeed, will anyone arrogate this rank to himself unless he wishes to make himself a laughing stock?
