The chemical composition of chalk is calcium carbonate CaCO3(s). Chalk is white in colour. It can be decomposed to calcium oxide CaO(s) and carbon dioxide CO2(g) when it is strongly heated. Calcium oxide is so-called quicklime.
Chemical formula~
CaCO3(s) → CaO(s) + CO2(g)

Chalk = Calcium Carbonate

Calcium carbonate ---> Clacium oxide + carbon dioxide

When heated strongly
