Both alkanes and alkenes can undergo substitution reactions as they have C-C and C-H bonds. However, alkenes also have C=C bonds, so that they can undergo addition reactions also. Therefore, both series have different chemical properties.

alkanes and alkens are in different homologous series,
so they have diff chemical properties.
