火鍋這詞語的英文可譯作hot pot, fondue or chafing-dish.
According to wikipedia, google and my knowledge, they are different.
Hot pot - use in 中式火鍋(打邊爐), or Asain countries 火鍋.
Fondue - French Swiss dishes, the contant of the pot are kept in liquid state so that the diners can use the forks to dip into the sauce.
Chafing-dish - is a kind of portable grate raised on a tripod, originally heated with charcoal in a brazier, and used for foods that required gentle cooking, away from the fierce heat of direct flames. The chafing dish could be used at table or for keeping food warm on a buffet.
