as in any big city, there will always be shady areas to avoid. stick to the main, busy streets and you should be fine. korea (seoul in particular) is generally safe, compared to other asian countries.

wait- you do mean south korea, right? ;-)

In South Korea? Yes, of course. No problem. Koreans are very helpful and friendly. They are honest and trustworthy. Very hospitable. Been there twice.

Seoul and other parts of South Korea are among the most safe places to be anywhere in the world. I had no qualms walking alone in Seoul at 2AM. A lady can walk safely in most areas of South Korea day or night and do so ALONE!

To give a brief example, an acquaintance got lost on the subway system and 2 Korean gentlemen took her and excorted all the way back to her hotel and refused compensation for their kindness.

I've been to Seoul twice by myself and I never had any problems. Many areas are well lit and there always seemed to be people out on the streets.

Its quite safe in Korea, but its does mean korea have no crime, maybe petty crime.

Absolutely. I travel all over the place on my own and i've never felt unsafe. Unloved, occassionally, but never unsafe. Very rarely someone will be rude to you because (I am guessing) they don't like Australian people or they don't like you speaking English ... but that is rare ... and only worth mentioning because it can be a bit disconcerting. For the most part, people are glad to help you and will go out of their way to give you a hand. A wonderful place, Korea. A few simple phrases might be worth learning so that you can at least ask for help if you need it. Have fun.

I would say no. If you do not have someone to travel with you, I would look into a reputable travel agency and ask about a companion for shopping trips, etc. There should only be a nominal fee for this.

We don't carry guns, and our government knows better than to let it's people carry guns, so you can be sure it's safer than NY.

I spent my time either in Uijongbu or Seoul, and never really had any problems. Keep your head high, and nobody will bother you, even if you stand out as a non-Asian.

Generally speaking I can say we're very kind people, but then again with any other place, where there are good people there are always !@#!#@s.

One time some old man kept swearing at me and my American friend just because he speaks English, and I'm a Korean speaking English. Weird I know, but what the hell. Who cares.

Yes, it's safer than any large city in the U.S...but you should be careful and aware of your surroundings wherever you go. Pickpockets are usually the most major issue you'll deal with in Seoul, and that never happened to me or anyone I know.

Yes. It is safe. Especially you will feel more safe in the big cities. And also safe at night time as well. you can go anywhere on foot, and it is better to stick with big main road.
And public transport is nice and clean and safe. Oh, rush hours... is so crazy busy. so, be wear.

Have fun.
