This is really frustrating, especially since I just got Twilight Princess for it.
Basically, I put any game in (all of mine are unscratched and clean) and the cube will read it for a few minutes. then at a loading point, it'll just stop reading the disc. the disc spinner literally shuts off, and then i have to re-open the cube and close it again for the spinner to start up again. the process repeats, getting more and more frequent until the game just wont read anymore.
so my question is, what could be wrong? too much dust in the system? is the system too old (i've had it for 5 years)?
nintendo said to either send it to them for repairs for $50, or that i should just go buy a Wii. I'm not in the mood to blow any kind of money right now though, so any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hit the reset button. Or take it to a Gamestop or other store that sells Gamecubes and see if they can tell you what's wrong. If no one can help, I'd just get another used Gamecube, maybe off eBay. Now that the Wii is out, Gamecubes have gone down in price.

In the older models, there was a problem with the lens that made it not strong enough to hold up for a long time, making it harder for it focus until it eventually gives up. I feel your pain. Same thing happend to me a couple years ago. Just got RE 4 and the cube wouldn't work. Looked on GameFAQs.com and it had a whole FAQ for it. I just went out and bought another, but the FAQ does tell you how to fix.
