If A, B are distinct real roots of the equation x^2 + 4x+p= 0

(a) find the range of the values of p.

(b) find p if A^2 + B^2 + (A^2.B^2) + 3(A+B) = 19

If A, B are distinct real roots of the equation x^2 + 4x+p= 0

(a) find the range of the values of p.

(b) find p if A^2 + B^2 + (A^2.B^2) + 3(A+B) = 19
(a)
Discriminant>0
4^2-4p>0
4(4-p)>0
p<4
(b)
A+B=-4
AB=p
A^2 + B^2 + (A^2.B^2) + 3(A+B) = 19
(A+B)^2-2AB+(AB)^2+3(A+B)=19
16-2p+p^2-12=19
p^2-2p-15=0
(p-5)(p+3)=0
p=5 or p=-3
from (a)
p=-3
