-Slides and coverslips should be clean and handled by their edges only.
-The specimen should be placed in the centre and covered with a small amount of water, glycerine or stain.
-The cover slip should be lowered gently onto the slide by supporting the free edge with a blunt seeker to prevent air bubbles forming.
