甚麼時侯不能用indirect speech?(詳細)十分!!急!!拜托了!!

為何會有時候不能夠用indirect speech (reported speech)? 當你引述他人或自己的話時，你便多會用indirect speech，因為那不用加上引號。在寫故事的時候，用直述句(direct speech)比較好，因為故事的角色好像在說話一般。

你說的fact，如the Earth rotates around the sun, 也可以用在indirect speech 中。

Direct speech: Yesterday, John, who was only three, surprised his mom when he said: "The Earth rotates around the sun."

Indirect speech: Yesterday, John, who was only three, suprised his mom when he said that the Earth rotates around the sun. 這時候，句中的rotate不會寫成past tense，因為那是一個fact，所以仍要用現在式。

You shouldn't use indirect speech when you are trying to persuade/ convince people, like when you are writing argumentative essay.
