Hong Kong's athletes returned TO (return is often followed by TO) the territory last Sunday to a jubilant crowd eager for a glimpse of the team that brought back a record 28 medals from the Asian Games in Doha this month.

They quickly found another reason (this cannot be right - you can either say TO CELEBRATE or FOR CELEBRATION) celebration: HK$40 million in new funds each year for elite athletes, and another HK$30 million a year to beef up training for national and junior squads at a local level.

Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, WHO (addressing a person, not an object) accompanied the team to Doha and returned home with them, also announced that construction would BEGIN (would is always followed by the present tense of a verb) soon on a world-class indoor velodrome

Wong Kam-po won gold in men's cycling. He said he was excited about the new velodrome, though it would not be ready for the 2009 East Asian Games. "It's going to help the development of our cycling program," Wong SAID (the other two are suggesting that Wong is answering a question or statement - only SAID is right).

The team HAD WON (past perfect tense used as it was over a period of time) six gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals - a record for Hong Kong at the Asian Games.
