Today,I picked up a call from an unknown woman.I was very nervous as she spoke English to me.Just 15 sec, I decided to cut it off, because I couldn't understand, the only word I heard was 'appointment'.I was very depressed after that, couse I've been staying in UK for 1 year and I can't speak to people in English with phone. Also, I'm worrying about the call as some days ago, I was lookin for a job, and it may be the appointment from the employer.who can help me?

If u want to speak good english, practice more is the best way, but if you are looking for a job now, I think it's too late for u to practice now.

May be you can call the company you apply for and ask them whether they have called you before, you can use 'the network has some problems and you can't hear very clearly that time' as an excuse. BUT REMEMBER, don't be nervous this time, hear it with all your attention, if you have lived in UK before, I think it will not border you.

In fact, if they call you speaking in english, I think the english usage will be very important in the interview, do prepare more, likes go through the website of the company, it can help you to have full knowledge about the company, including the job profile etc.. And try to speak more in daily life before interview, it can make you accustom to speak in english, so can help you to speak more fluent in the interview.

Practice makes perfect is always right in oral. Read more and speak more, I think you are just too nervous and cannot 'tune' your channel to english suddenly, but not a real problem to you if you can overcome your nervousness.

Keep calm and don't be nervous, if you can't really hear very clear, don't feel shame to say excuse me or sorry, I think they will repeat again. Good luck!!

I believe that if you cannot handle a simple call from the company for an interview, you wouldn't be able to handle the whole interview if it is in English. So, forget about the call. Concentrate on the future possibilities. You need someone to role play with you in English in a phone call situation, interview situation ... You might want to try your English in some English speaking restaurants in Hong Kong (if you're in HK). Go shopping with someone who can practise with you and only use English. Go to supermarkets and imagine if you have to speak English, how would you say it. Follow those whities and listen to how they speak. Watch some English movies or sitcoms with no subtitles. When you get used to the sound of English, you'll communicate with ease in English!
